Tom dreamt a bear cavorted around on our deck, as bears are wont to do.
But Tom had paid his dues. He had grown shrewd. There was a feeling of men playing parts in a larger story that they don't quite understand. He studied the bear with careful consideration.
Then the head fell off the bear costume and the ten raccoons who had been standing on top of each other scrambled into the darkness.
