Best Wedding Witness Ever if I do say so myself

Bruce asked if I would be their witness at his wedding in City Hall and I could not have been more honored and filled with bubbles of joy. It made me so happy to imagine the two of them being able to call each other husband for the first time.

Of course I immediately started fretting about my outfit, which I loved the opportunity to think way too hard about for at least four days. You can't hit up the google for "appropriate outfit for wedding witness" and really get any collective wisdom on the topic. Trust me, I tried.

Meanwhile, I have to say I enjoyed the official wedding appointment booking email from NYC probably a little too much:

Please bring to your appointment: ID & One Witness.

Is it just me or does it feel like you’re supposed to tuck the "one witness" under your arm and haul 'er into the courthouse in the same sack as your one valid form of ID? I didn't mention this to Bruce, didn't want to give him any ideas.

The thing is, technically at least, if you get married at city hall, you're only allowed to bring in the one witness. It dawns on me: besides the two future spouses, I’m it. So lots of pressure!!!

I start worrying about everything. As one example, it's up to me to take any and all photos that will exist of this momentous occasion. OMG.

I charged up my phone and set seven alarms so I'd wake up in time and get down there 30 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment. My fears were misplaced. Or I frantically worried the whole thing into success, which is how my family does it. But the wedding was beautiful and went off without a hitch.

I'm not obviously going to share any of the really pretty half decent photos and videos I managed to take -- the day wasn't mine to share. But do enjoy these winners:

Possibly the subway on the way home.

Half of a book in the display case
in the area where they perform the ceremony.

The ceiling.

My piece de resistance.
I call it "What is happening right now?"

Suffice to say, I am very talented at accidentally taking photos like these. I have many of them.

Right after the service on the way out of the ceremony area, I announced, really pretty loudly I guess, "I think she did a great job!!!!!" talking about the officiant who read the "Do you take this man..." vows.

And then we all hear this voice coming from over the top of a large partition: "Thank you!!"

I told Tom this story after I got home and he said I probably made her day.

Well, mine was made for the two weeks leading up to that day and I'm still basking in the glow.
