Living in Manhattan is good for seeing friends - NaBloPoMo 13
So the Rangers game Tom went to with Matt didn't last very long. In T minus 10 minutes, the Rangers were losing by like 6 points and Matt couldn't stand it anymore. He told Tom he wanted to leave and so they wound up at McManus, a very old dive bar 4 blocks from our apartment.
Meanwhile, Helen was at an event at Chelsea Piers, so she decided to meet them after it ended. Tom texted me at 9:30 and asked if I wanted to come over too.
Yes? No? I was lounging around on the couch reading a book. It felt very arduous to put on shoes. But then I thought, you know, after the traumatic week with the election and all, maybe I should go out and be with friends. So I got my life together and walked up to 19th street.
hmm, this is a particularly flattering angle of McManus. That bar is literally worn down in elbow zone and permanently just a little sticky. It is truly a relic. |
Slightly more realistic camera angle:
The linoleum floor is. Linoleum. Or maybe it's tile. That looks like linoleum. |
One time I saw Johnny Galecki from the Big Bang Theory standing out front McManus wearing sunglasses with extremely yellow lenses. I guess he was smoking. This is apropos because currently we are watching all the episodes of the Big Bang Theory and have made it up to Season 4.
I say all this to say, meeting up at the Peter McManus Cafe was life echoing our Netflix history while coinciding with My List of Celebrities I Have Randomly Seen.
Meant to be, in other words.
Anyway, I get there and Tom, Matt and Helen are bellied up to the bar. We have a couple drinks, laugh a little bit, and then stroll back home.
It's always so great to have a surprise interlude with friends who are somewhere that is a four minute or less walk away. Or even a couple stops on the subway. These random get togethers happen often enough I confidently count them as a reason to live on this crazy island. Assuming I can manage to get off the couch.
