Pop realizes We're not in the Suburbs Anymore - NaBloPoMo 4

Mom and Dad landed in Newark at 9:30PM and took an Uber (!!) using the app (!!) to our apartment in New York City (!!) during the Halloween Parade (!!) and managed to do so with no tech support, or even just general support, of any kind. It was really kind of astounding and pretty impressive actually.

The next morning, we all went out to breakfast. On the walk back to our place, the two of them were just strolling along. They're both extremely fit and fancy themselves on the fast side, but this stroll was inarguably slow by New York City standards. In fact, they were walking so slow a traffic jam formed behind us on the sidewalk.

There was a little old lady walking her dog. A guy pulling a hand truck. Two kids late for whatever truants do on a Wednesday morning at 10:30AM and some dude with a backpack.

I stepped aside to let them all pass. I feel like one thing you get good at after living in the city awhile is feeling the impatient aura of someone behind you with places to go and people to see.

The 'rents do not have this intuition though. And that little old lady was breathing down Dad's neck for a good thirty feet before she must have idk smacked him in the back of the leg or something with her cane. She was also walking a little dog, so maybe the dog hit a more forward line of sight.

Anyway, after Mom and Dad moved over and the whole parade whizzed by, Dad says pensively in a kind of "note to self" voice -- "You can't forget you're in New York City when walking on the sidewalk."

Fair enough.
